House Representative Randy Forbes of Virginia introduced a new bill, HR 6260, known as the “New Manhattan Project for Energy Independence” on June 12, 2008. According to Congressman Forbes, this bill is purposed to achieve 50% energy independence in 10 yrs and 100% in 20 yrs via its promotion of “research, development, demonstration, and commercial application of technologies through a system of grants and prizes on the scale of the original Manhattan Project.” This project will award large monetary sums to any entity(ies) that achieve one or all of seven designated energy goals.
